Welcome to my home page. I am an associate professor in the
Information
Systems group of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)
and leader of the
Business
Process Management research cluster within this group.
My research and teaching focus on business process improvement, in
particular through process redesign (BPR) and the application of workflow technology.
I am closely cooperating with companies from the services and healthcare domains,
as well as with various international scholars. Recent things
on my agenda:
|
|
In April 2012, a joint project with Zhejiang University (ZJU) and Philips Research will start off, in which we will be looking at combining diagnostic information with process mining results. This is a project that is funded by the BrainBridge program. |

In the months of June and July 2012, I will be visiting the BPM group at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. There, I will work together with Jan Recker, Arthur ter Hofstede, Marcello La Rosa and others on new BPM techniques and technologies. |

|
The graduate course on Business Process Management (1BM05) has come to its completion in January 2012. More than 150 students took the exam. More information on this course can be found through the Owinfo system. |

I will be delivering the keynote at the 6th Brazilian Workshop on Business Process Management, which will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, from May 16 to May 18 2012. I will offer a number of perspectives on the available methods, techniques, and tools for business process improvement. |

We are happy that our proposal was accepted to organize the second edition of the International Workshop on Process Model Collections in September 2012, which will precede the academic BPM conference of 2012. We see that there is a growing industrial demand for techniques to manage large sets of interrelated models of business processes. Here is an overview of the other workshops that will be organized at BPM 2012. |

In December 2011, I acted as opponent during the PhD defense of Gustaf Juell-Skielse at Stockholm University. The title of his PhD thesis is "Improving Organizational Effectiveness through Standard Application Packages and IT Services". Gustaf carried out his research under the supervision of prof.dr. Paul Johannesson. |

Ronny Mans and I are completing a research project that is funded by the ITI institute. The objective of the project has been to investigate the effects of digitalization - including the use of workflow technology - on implant dentistry. Our partners in this project are ACTA and Straumann. Simulation, process mining, and BPR are all important ingredients in this project too. Ronny recently presented the first results at the 2nd ACM SIGHIT International Health Informatics Symposium. |

I am part of an international team of researchers that has launched the APROMORE initiative, which aims at the development of an open and extensible repository to store and disclose business process models of a variety of types and languages. Make sure to check out the website for more information and to gain access to the tool. |
